Past UK Fossil Live/Open to all Events at Brora

13th June 2005

Our first new Site in the Scottish Highlands, in 2003 we visited Brora Beach, no cliffs but boulders along the beach contain some superb ammonites. Today we visited the high cliff sections along the Brora River. Ammonites, Belemnites, Plant material and Bivalves can all be collected here. The formation is part of the Brora Group, coal seams can also be seen in layers and many years ago there used to be a quarry mining for coal in the town of Brora. Scotland’s had a lot of rain so the river was quite high, most of the exposed platforms which contain the best ammonites and plant material were not accessible.
